Import / Export Funk Office

Digital Transformation
April 1994 to February 1997

Project and exhibition with Renée Green in cooperation with Kulturinformatik (Martin Warnke)

Renée Green’s work focuses on the investigation of structures within which knowledge is constructed, accumulated, communicated and exchanged. The installation in the “Kunstraum der Universität Lüneburg” deals with processes and consequences of the international flow of cultural products and information.

The starting point is the material collected for the installation “Import/Export Funk Office”. This work was begun in 1993 and has been continuously developed since then. It includes videos, photographs, texts, tape material and books. Thematically, the focus is on the exchange between America and Europe in the field of hip-hop culture. Further projects of the artist, which tie in with the questions of “Import/Export Funk Office”, will also be included in the Lüneburg exhibition.

Import/Export Funk Office” is - in accordance with Renée Green’s characteristic way of working - a participatory exhibition situation. In addition to film, music, and photographic material, the core of the exhibition is a CDROM, which enables a transformed reception of the material in historical and systematic terms. It is available for use by visitors to the exhibition, as is a WorldWideWeb version.
