A man walks into an office. His secretary is typing at her desk. He pulls the chair away— she remains seated, hovering, tip-tapping at the keyboard

Public Workshop with Alexandra Symons-Sutcliffe
May 20, 2026, 6pm

In the context of the exhibition Memorys und Verbindungs– und Verhältniswörter und heiliger Ernst by Leonie Nagel feat. Bonk4∞

This workshop engages the performative and pedagogical work of Jo Spence and Terry Dennett, focusing on their use of photography as a collective, socially engaged tool for self-representation and critical reflection.

It situates their workshop methodology in relation to the early Soviet avant-garde—particularly the films of Dziga Vertov and the less well known anti-naturalist performance strategies of Factory of the Eccentric Actor (FEKS)—in order to think through how gesture, image, and subjectivity are produced through external conditions rather than interior expression.
